If your children are always excited to jump out of their beds and start learning, you don’t need to continue reading it.

However, if you have kids who feel as confused and lost about this school year as you are, then you are in the right place. Students have been studying at home for a long time now, and it can be very hard to stay motivated.
The fear, uncertainty and confusion surrounding this particular back-to-school season is not an ideal way to commence the year. But then, when it comes to resilience and tenacity, you can’t beat kids at that!

Children are curious by nature and are most welcoming to trying new things. Hence, learning new things is always a matter of interest to them. And, when you know what it takes to motivate them, you can sit back and relax. However, it is important to note that it is not an overnight process and may take some trial and error to crack.

Remember that the aim should be to extend them much needed support to keep up with virtual schooling. Save that pressure as and when things go back to normalcy. Until then, make sure to support them so that they can achieve their academic goals.

In this article, we shall discuss ways that you can keep your children motivated. See what works best, make adjustments, and find what works best. A good rule of thumb to remember is that all children are different. Therefore, something that would work in theory might not work at all with certain children. Remember, with trial and error; you will find what makes them tick. With that said, let’s look at how you can keep your children motivated even when they are at home.

Give your child someone to look up to

At some point, your energy will start to diminish and wither. However, no matter how hard it gets, keep up a positive attitude and consistent approach. If you feel that your child is flagging and unable to come back on track and find it beyond your capabilities to guide him, seek help from art and lead them by setting up some example or role model. By art, we mean that you can dig up some role models from movies, books, and documentaries. Give them someone whose grit and persistence end up inspiring them to give their best even if it seems impossible at that moment.

Establish a routine and set rewards

If you want your kid to do well, then we suggest you design them a routine. This is beneficial as by setting expectations; children know what they need to do. Moreover, to make them stick to the routine and keep them motivated, you can set rewards and reinforce their efforts. To sum up, a routine will help kids accustom to changes in their day, and a reward system keeps them committed. Speaking of the rewards, it can be a scrabble match, treating them with their favorite meal to gifting them a toy.

To make it easier, you can make use of different digital tools to help with agenda-setting.

Accountability matters

Well, maybe you are unable to motivate your child. But what if we tell you that their friend can? Yes, that’s right! What you can do is schedule daily or periodic check-ins with one of your child’s friends. It can be through text messages or any social media channel. This will not only help in maintaining accountability but also makes it fun. Your kid won’t feel alone and will relate more if they see that their friend is there too.

Experiment

If your child is struggling or does not enjoy reading a book, you can replace it with audiobooks. After all, the goal is to make them learn, no? So, it does not matter what the medium is. If your kid finds math too boring, then design activities and solve the problems using props. The key is to experiment and keep things exciting, so the kid remains motivated.
