It is high time to start planning for the much-awaited back-to-school season you and your children will ever encounter. Now you may still not understand the exact situation of schools resuming in your state. That is okay. However, you can still expect some degree of distance learning for your child, especially if schools do not open.

Now, comes the million-dollar question. How can one give learning a boost at home?

Well, it is only possible when you are willing to set up a separate and a brand new place for your child at home. When everything has a dedicated place to it, why not even dedicate a room to your child’s learning space? Doing so will help your child focus as well as make them feel comfortable with the idea of distance learning.

In this article, we have come up with some suggestions to help you set up a productive room for your child.

Ask your children about their preferences.

Every child is different. If your child prefers pin drop silence, you should transform their room into one that can offer them that silence.  If not their room, then prepare a spare room that the child can use for themselves. If they prefer to be around someone while studying, then consider a location closer to where you will be working. Or you can set up the room closest to your office if you are working from home. If there are various options available, have your child try each of them to see which suits them best.

Make the space functional

Ensure that the furniture you opt for is functional and comfortable. To start, choose a chair they will be comfortable on for long durations.  In case there is a lot of paperwork, as in worksheets and artwork, make sure that the desk offers storage. Moreover, the desk should be one with a flat surface to accommodate the books, laptops and various other learning supplies. You can also opt for a desk that offers various surfaces, each for a specific task. Since we are on the topic, we do not recommend using a bed as a learning space. Furthermore, using a bed as a learning space can induce sleep and make your child feel lazy. No one wants to see their kid falling sleep amidst their lessons!

Install a magnetic chalkboard

One way to ensure a productive set up is to install a magnetic chalkboard close to your kid’s desk. This is that visualization tool that can help kids when it comes to planning and completing their projects.  Moreover, they can also be used as a central point to display reminders. In addition to this, kids can use it to jot down notes, learning tips and tricks and other facts while they study. It is an excellent tool to write down any future or even pending assignments as well as meeting schedules. Other than a magnetic board, you can also use cork tiles or perhaps, a pinboard.

Good lighting

Make sure that you have the right lighting if you want your child to focus. Good lighting is essential to protect your child’s eyesight so that they do not have to struggle while they read or write.

Speaking of this, we suggest that you have a combination of natural daylight and artificial lighting set for the room. Apart from this, a directed task-light – like a lamp – is ideal when the sunsets. Hence, make sure you have them up in the learning space.

If the room is small, consider installing a wall sconce. Additionally, a wall sconce works best when you are looking for a much stronger lighting option for your child’s learning space. Having a wall sconce also frees up quite a lot of desk space for them to use.

Add a personal touch

Encourage your kid and ask them to add something to the room that reflects their personality. It could be a decoration piece or artwork that helps them remain inspired and keeps them motivated. You can also ask your child if they would like to pick and choose the furniture themselves.
