This year is the perfect time to take a road trip. Hitting the road by yourself or with loved ones is a great way to get out and explore the world. We’ve got the five best reasons to go on a road trip this year.

1. You’re On Your Own Time

There’s no rushing to the airport or worrying about lines when you’re on the road. You get to make your own schedule. If you want to push the itinerary, you can do whatever you want. You can take your time. If you see a neat museum off the road, a fun rest stop or a cool waterpark, you can take the time to enjoy it. There’s a million hidden gems along the road. You can find some of the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants along the highway. You can also make your way off the highway onto random roads to find new adventures on your own. If you want to stay somewhere roaming around for five hours, go ahead and do it.

2. It’s Always An Adventure

There’s something magical about a road trip. You can’t ever be sure what’s going to happen next. Even if you plan out all the details, you might find something that throws you off along the way. You start the engine, turn up the music and roll down the road with adventure ahead. You might see crazy things along the road that make the trip more of an adventure. You might see wild hitchhikers, vintage cars or a city that’s recently been hit by a violent storm. There’s always something to see that can’t be found on a map. Traveling by car is never the same, no matter what day or time you leave for your destination.

3. Bonding Time

One of the coolest things about road tripping is you get to do it with people you love. Whether you’re on the road with your significant other, your friends or your family, you get special time to bond. In the past, you might’ve rolled your eyes at the thought of hours in the car with your family. Now, you get excited to just catch up and hang out. This is time together that you don’t always have. Life is usually stuffed full of things to do. A trip in the car together provides time to just be together. Catch up, talk about life and just enjoy one another. You get to know each other on a deeper level. You could just sleep the entire trip without talking, but you’d miss out on a great opportunity to bond and make memories to last a lifetime.

4. Discover The Unexpected

Sometimes a road trip gives you a lot of time just to think. You could discover a new path or purpose for your life. You have time to sit and think. Again, life is often so busy that we don’t have time to truly ponder decisions. You get the time to dive into unexpected territory. You may even have a stop along the road where you meet someone that changes your life. They may give you some random advice out of nowhere that you take to heart. You might stumble into a really cool place along the way that changes your entire perspective on life. The road is full of unexpected adventures just waiting for you to find them.

5. Recharge and Refresh

Traveling the open road gives you time to re-energize yourself both physically and mentally. You get to recharge and refresh as you travel. Your mind is a million miles away from the everyday stressors. You get to say “yes” to everything you want to do along the way. You get to slow down and take care of yourself. The road gives you a way to enjoy yourself without the weight of the world on your shoulders. There’s no cleaning the house, making lunch for the kids or writing a report at work. There’s only driving and riding.

This is the perfect time for a road trip. Make a playlist of your favorite music, pack some fun snacks, and hit the road with friends or family. You’ll make lifetime memories and feel thankful that you go to have a fun road trip experience.
